Economy

Senator John Ruckelshaus is working with Governor Eric Holcomb to safely and responsibly reopen our economy, trying our best to get Hoosiers back to work while ensuring the public remains safe and we prevent another outbreak.

John Ruckelshaus has been working to ease the financial burdens on Hoosier families due to the coronavirus crisis by being a leading advocating in defeating efforts by utility companies to force higher rates on Hoosiers to recover money they lost during this pandemic.

Education

Senator John Ruckelshaus is not afraid to stand up and take the hard votes that elevate the teaching profession and invests in future Hoosier generations, even if members of his own party don’t agree with him.

John Ruckelshaus is committed to making sure our schools are well-funded. In his first term, he voted to spend more than half of every dollar in the state budget on education and K-12 funding has increased by over $1 Billion.

John Ruckelshaus believes we must invest in our teachers and provide them the best support and materials possible. He voted for legislation directing more money to the classrooms and supported efforts to create the Teacher Appreciation Grant program to provide annual bonuses to teachers.

Environment

Senator Ruckelshaus is proud of his efforts through legislation and establishing the White River Caucus that has brought stakeholders, from all sides of the political spectrum, together to help protect our natural resources.

In order to revitalize and raise awareness of the White River’s natural beauty, the Senator is also leading efforts to partner government and philanthropic organizations together to allow Hoosiers to enjoy outdoor recreational activities in our forests and our trails.

Health Care

Senator John Ruckelshaus is leading the charge to help control health care costs and promote price transparency.

Supporting legislation that guarantees health insurance to Hoosiers with pre-existing conditions regardless of what happens at the federal level with the Affordable Care Act.

Continuing to fully fund the Healthy Indiana Program 2.0 to provide greater access to health care for more Hoosiers.

Independent Voice of Reason

Senator John Ruckelshaus broke from his party to author an all-inclusive hate crimes bill that addresses hate against race and religion.

Voting to strengthen Indiana’s nationally recognized “Red Flag” law which allows law enforcement to seize firearms from dangerous individuals before they commit a crime.

John has repeatedly stood up and opposed President Trump’s latest efforts to attack the Affordable Care Act at the Supreme Court.

Senator Ruckelshaus authored comprehensive redistricting reform legislation and led the charge for these reforms in the state senate.

Student Advisory Groups

Senator Ruckelshaus’ Student Advisory Committee was made up of high school students from every school in his district.

They meet regularly so students have a voice in state government.

Last session this committee drafted a school safety bill and had legislation pass on the state senate floor.

Senator Ruckelshaus believes in the need to empower future generations of Hoosiers by listening to their concerns and acting on their input.
